Officials at the 2018 Pyeonchang Winter Olympics have occurred that a cyber attack hit the games, taking its website as well as TV and internet access at its main press center offline, the Guardian reported. The Sun’s headline read “HACK ATTACK Cyber crooks HACKED the Winter Olympics opening ceremony sparking ticket chaos for hours – but who is responsible? ” They were forced to shut them down to stop further damage, leading to the closure of the official 2018 website. It meant spectators who bought tickets were unable to print their reservations and the problem was only sorted by 8am Korean time. CNN Titled an article “The Olympics are an irresistible target for cybercriminals” prior to the actual hacking.
There were also problems with wi-fi and televisions in the media centre.
An expected display of 300 high-flying drones was also grounded, with an “impromptu logistical change” blamed. A film of the rehearsal was broadcast instead.
